We would like to inform you that the VI International Economic Forum ‘Interregional Co-operation for Economic Development’ will be held in Lviv on 5-6 October 2006. This is the very first event of its type organized in Eastern Europe with the assistance of the Assembly of European Regions. The International Investment and Realty Fair ‘Ukraine-EU’ will be timed to the Forum, and held on the 4-6 October.

The Forum is aimed at an exchange of views regarding the role of the regions in the processes of economic development, the discussion of conceptual principles and tools employed by regional policy in European countries and Ukraine, and the role of innovative policy, the extension of transport networks and interregional co-operation for development within these regions. The Forum will provide an ideal environment for European regions to establish new contacts and develop the mechanisms of co-operation.

Also invited to the Forum are representatives of various authorities and business leaders from the regions of Ukraine, together with other European countries.

Forum Delegates will have the opportunity of attending the plenary and section meetings, seminars, and bilateral introductory meetings between Ukrainian and foreign companies, and visiting the International Fair.

We warmly invite you to take part in this Forum.

We feel sure that the format of this event, as set out by the Steering Committee, together with the impressive list of participating countries and the far-reaching scope of topics covered in the Programme, will ensure that the few beautiful autumn days spent in Lviv during its 750 th Birthday year will be both productive and enjoyable.

On behalf of the Steering Committee , we invite you to take part in the VI International Economic Forum to be held in Lviv on 5-6 October 2006.

The Annual Economic Forum, held in Lviv since 1999, has become a traditional event boosting transfrontier co-operation, facilitating the establishment of contacts between business delegates, fostering integration processes, and streamlining efficient methods of response to the changes taking place in Europe.

Invited to attend the 2006 Forum are Government representatives and business players from the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, CIS and other countries interested in establishing reciprocal trading, investment and manufacturing relationships. Invitations have also been issued to representatives of the UNO, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the European Union Institutions.

Scheduled in the Programme are:

• International Conference on the issues of Regional Development;
• Sectional meetings within the framework of the Conference, to discuss the issues of innovative development of the regions, development of transport networks, and interregional and transfrontier co-operation;
• International Workshop 'Improving the Competitiveness of Ukrainian and Polish SMEs through Drawing on the West-European Practice of State-of-the-art IT Uptake';
• International Judicial Round Table : 'Exchange of Experiences on the Approximation of National Legislations to the European Law';
• Bilateral introductory meetings between the Ukrainian and foreign businessmen;
• International Investment and Realty Fair ' Ukraine – EU'.

To take part in the Forum, please remit the attendance fee of EUR 200 and complete the Delegate’s Questionnaire (enclosed ).
